Esli Honore is a pianist and organist who pioneers a genre he calls “Mazoukompa,” blending classical, jazz, gospel, and Latin Caribbean sounds into a unique expression of his Caribbean heritage. He began music lessons at age thirteen, and his passion led him from early experimentation with the piano to formal studies at the National Conservatory of the Dominican Republic. Honore’s talents earned him a Presidential Scholarship to Berklee College of Music, where he earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Performance and Contemporary Writing & Production, as well as a Master’s degree in Global Jazz.
His upcoming project, Rasin Mwen Vol. 1, explores Haitian culture and themes of resilience and healing, using symbolic elements like coconuts and rain to connect listeners to the spirit of Haiti. “For me, music is the art of infusing the essence of your roots into your playing and compositions,” Esli says, echoing his vision of a dynamic career dedicated to sharing Haitian culture worldwide.
